My skin suffers with dehydration generally but especially when the seasons change, and as the weather is starting to get a bit cooler I’ve been taking stock of my dry skin fighting staples – which always means bringing all my hyaluronic acid products straight to the front of my bathroom cabinet.

What Is Hyaluronic AcidHyaluronic acid is naturally present in our skin, but as we get older the amount we produce and also our ability to hold on to our naturally produced hyaluronic acid  decreases. Hyaluronic acid acts almost like a magnet for moisture, helping your skin cells to retain as much moisture as possible so that your skin looks and feels hydrated, plump and healthy.

It’s a bit of a holy grail ingredient in skincare for me – not only does it keep skin hydrated it also works to prevent loss of skin elasticity and plumps the appearance of the skin – and it really works. My mum, who is in her 60’s, starting taking a liquid hyaluronic supplement and the difference is amazing. Her skin looks incredible and definitely more “youthful”, so to speak, as the hyaluronic acid works it’s plumping and collagen stimulating magic. What makes it even more magical, for me, is that it is also anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory and I find it really helps not only with any spots I get, but also seems to help calm my rosacea.

There are lots of products on the market, and I’ve used a LOT of them at different times but these would make my top five…
