PHOTO TRAVEL DIARY: RONDA, SPAIN

So, this is a super belated post as I went to Spain at the beginning of October. Oops!

I did however want to take the time to document the day I visited Ronda, because it was so beautiful!

It was a quick five day trip to Spain with family, so most of the time was spent in and around the villa and area we were staying but, on the final day, we visited Ronda. I’d seen an amazing photograph on Pinterest just before flying out to Spain and when I did a little internet research discovered that the place in question was Ronda and not too far from where we were staying.

Ronda is in a mountainous area in Andalusia, perched upon the El Tajo canyon carved out by the Guadalevin River which divides the city in two. The Puente Nuevo “New Bridge” spans the El Tajo canyon, sitting 120 metres above the canyon floor. “New” is a little bit of a misnomer however, the bridge was built in the mid to late 1700’s.

Both Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles spent time in Ronda, living in the old town quarter – La Ciudad. Both wrote about Ronda’s beauty and famous bullfighting traditions – the Plaza de toros de Ronda is the oldest bullgihting ring in Spain. Built in 1784 by José Martin de Aldehuela, who also designed the Puente Nuevo, and is an utterly amazing building.

JUST READ ANOTHER BOOK…

just read another book challenge

At the start of the year a friend of mine posted on Facebook about a challenge that she was setting herself for 2016; ‘Just Read Another Book’.

Challenge Rules

  1. Read one new book every fortnight for the year. Completing at least 26 new books by 31st December 2016.
  2. Watch one new film each week for the year, totalling 52 new watched films by 31st December 2016.

I absolutely loved the idea of the challenge – I’ve often thought that I really should make time to watch all these films that are winning Oscars and I’ve lost count of the number of books I’ve bought but haven’t got round to reading yet (the pile is probably reaching crush injury levels now…)

I’ve always considered myself a prolific reader but, as I get older, I’ve definitely fallen into the habit of only finding time to read before bed and therefore just picking up an old favourite that has probably been read twenty times before. The same is true for watching films – when I actually have the time to watch a film I’m usually so tired that I end up avoiding anything new that requires even a little bit of concentration. So, in an attempt, to combat this and actually make time for myself and reading I’m going to jump on the bandwagon and attempt to complete this myself.

I’m not planning on blogging every week about this but I will probably try to do a monthly update post. Mainly because I think keeping a track of what I’m reading / watching will help keep me focused on completing the challenge.

Here goes…

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year

I’ve never been one for New Year’s Resolutions. Mainly because I’m well aware of my general lack of motivation, commitment and will-power in most things but, this year, I though I’d try to make a couple of personal goals, rather than resolutions, for the coming year…

  1. Regularly update the blog
The aim has always been Monday, Wednesday and Friday posts, the reality has often been sadly lacking. Must do better.
  2. Home updates
I really need to crack on with prioritising some of the work that needs doing / I want to do in the house. I plan on creating a To-Do list early in the New Year to help me focus on what I want to finish off (hello, dressing room that still isn’t finished…) and what I want to get completed this year. It’s time to make my surroundings more of a home and less of a building site / storage unit.
  3. Quit the “I’m too tired” excuses
Whether it’s turning down an opportunity / invite or just searching for a reason to put off taking off my make up at night this needs to stop.
  4. Home cooking / meal planning
Between the unscheduled eating out, takeways and forgoing a proper meal in favour of a quick, on-to-go snack I’d like to try to be a little more disciplined and aim to make at least 80% of my meals home-cooked and intentional.
  5. Do MORE
I’m so lucky to live in a city that has lots much to offer; museums, galleries, yummy restaurants, etc etc… (and to live in a country where everything is very easily accessible – the UK is SMALL) but I rarely visit any of them. Time to get up, get out and see more of the amazing things on my doorstep…

Have you made any New Year’s Resolutions / goals? Any tips for actually achieving mine?!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful 2015 and that 2016 brings you everything you could wish for. Thank you so much for the reading the blog and I’ll see you in 2016!

Happy New Year!
