EMPTIES #1

Empties - round up #1After realising I couldn’t squeeze anything else into the box I’ve been using to store my empties in since starting this blog I realised an empties post was well overdue.

So here’s a run down of some of my recent empties with my quick thoughts on each and links to any full reviews I have done…

Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing Eye Make-Up Remover – Gentle, non irritating even to my super sensitive eyes, probably the best drug store eye make-up remover I’ve tried to date.

Would I repurchase?  Yes

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water – Brilliant stuff and a complete bargain. I haven’t purchased Bioderma since I started using this, to be honest I’m not sure that I can ever tell the difference between different ones anyway so… At the rate I get through micellar water, from removing eye make-up to spot cleaning make up brushes, this saves me a fortune!

Would I repurchase?  Yes – it’s a must have for me.

Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner – I used this obsessively for most of last year and got through two bottles. It never felt drying or irritating on my skin and I used it morning and night. It did a great job of helping to minimise my hyperpigmentation and improved the smoothness and texture of my skin.

Would I repurchase?  Probably. Currently using the Pixi Glow Tonic though which I also love.

Dior Airflash Spray Foundation in 201 Linen – A matte, spray on foundation that gives a flawless, almost soft focus, finish with great coverage. Yes, it can be a little messy when applying but the finish made the faff of covering my hair and applying in my bathroom well worth it. It applies really evenly and literally takes a few seconds to apply. Any small areas of excess are easily buffed in with a brush or Beauty Blender. It’s fantastic – if I was going to recommend a foundation, I’d always pick this. At £33.50 it’s not cheap, but for me it’s 100% worth it.

Would I repurchase?  Yes – already have.

MAC Face & Body Foundation in C4 – Love it and use it all the time, you can read my thoughts on it here.

Would I repurchase?  Yes – already have.

Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara – Strictly speaking this isn’t an empty but sometimes you have to know when to quit and just toss a product that is doing nothing for you. I  HATED this mascara. I generally don’t really get on very well with mascaras with plastic brushes (I could probably dedicate an entire post ranting about them…) but this one was just particularly awful. The formula felt overly wet and was a pain to apply – I suspect this was mainly due to the plastic brush, it may not have been such a problem with a bristle brush. But my main gripe is that it just didn’t deliver – if a mascara has the word volume in it’s name then I’m expecting volume and this didn’t provide any, plus the application was so heavy and wet that it didn’t hold any curl. It just didn’t work for me at all – one of the worst mascaras I’ve ever used.

Would I repurchase?  A definite NO.

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara – I love this stuff. Makes applying mascara to the bottom lashes mess free and means you can really get into every tiny little lash. I know some people think this is a totally unnecessary product but I wouldn’t be without it.

Would I repurchase?  Yes

Ojon Dry Recovery Hydrating Shampoo – I picked this up at Sephora in Las Vegas on a whim. It left my hair feeling soft, smooth and easy to manage. Oh, and it smelt delicious- I could have easily sat sniffing the bottle for hours on end. I don’t really have dry hair, just very occasionally at the ends, so I probably don’t need to be using a hydrating shampoo but this didn’t feel like it weighed my hair down in the way so many can. Overall, it was nice to use and left my hair feeling in really good condition.

Would I repurchase?  Probably not – it’s a nice shampoo but since I’ve started using a volume shampoo I don’t think I’d buy one that wasn’t again.

Batiste Dry Shampoo: Deep & Dark Brown – I get through a ridiculous amount of dry shampoo and I always seem to come back to this one. As someone who has dark hair this is brilliant as it doesn’t leave any white marks in your hair like so many of the other Batiste’s do if you’re not careful. I just wish there was a way to have this with either the cherry or tropical scents!

Would I repurchase?  Yes, it’s an eternal repurchase.

Empties Round Two is probably coming up soon as I had managed to collect far too much stuff for just one post…
