FRIDAY FIVE: IF I COULD…

If I Could.jpgStrictly speaking this is a bit of a cheat, as it’s more than five things, but here goes anyway…

IF I COULD LIVE ANYWHERE…
Without a second of hesitation – New York. I’ve been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time there and I’ve always felt really at home and comfortable there. I’m definitely a big city girl, so only New York could ever rival London for me.

IF I COULD HAVE ANY HOME…
I’m fickle. I probably need about five different houses, in very different styles to live out all my interior design dreams. As it is, I think the “dream” home would actually be one I could design myself and have built to my own specifications. My dad was an architect so I guess there’s a little bit of that in my blood.

IF I COULD HAVE ANY GARDEN…
Gardening isn’t really my thing. I can enjoy a nice garden but I have no desire to actually get involved with the maintenance of one. I think the perfect fantasy outdoor space for me would be some kind of amazing roof terrace, with a phenomenal view, where you could sit and eat and drink with friends in the summer.

IF I COULD BE ON HOLIDAY RIGHT NOW…
Right this second, as it’s chucking it down with rain, I’d settle for anywhere with a little bit of sunshine! Let’s go with 25+°, no humidity and an endless supply of cocktails. Alternatively, I’d adore to go on an amazing safari sometime soon.

IF I COULD HAVE ANY JOB…
I’ve been incredibly lucky that for the last two or three years I’ve been able to do a job that I really enjoy. I realise when I talk to friends that that is a rare thing. However, in a complete fantasy world, I’d adore to be a curator for something like the National Archives (old books and papers get make me ridiculously happy), a researcher for a programme like ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ or even to own my own little book shop – think Black Books, just without smoking and with more booze!

IF I COULD HAVE ANY TALENT…
I’d love to be able to pick up languages easily. I have a decent amount of conversational Spanish and French, along with a little bit of Arabic but I really wish I could be fluent in a couple of other languages. It always shames me how pretty much everyone else in the world can speak fantastic English but those of us who have English as a first language are generally a bit rubbish at making the effort to learn other languages.

IF I COULD LIVE ANY DAY AGAIN…
This probably makes me sound super preachy, but I’m not really one for living in the past or generally reflecting too much on things and I don’t have any major regrets in life that I’d want to go back and change. I think those amazing, “best of” days that have happened are just that, an utterly lovely memory to look back on. I genuinely don’t think I’d want to go back and re-live any day over again – I’d like to think the days I have to come will be just as great as those that have gone before.

IF I COULD HAVE ANY SUPERPOWER…
Is time travel a superpower? As a history nerd, that would be super cool.
I guess if I had to pick from the traditional ‘Superman’ type superpowers then maybe the ability to fly? It would make travel and commuting much less hassle…

That last one was a difficult one to pick! What would your superpower be?
