BEAUTY RULES YOU ACTUALLY SHOULD FOLLOW

Beauty Rules You Actually Should Follow mainImage credit

Not all beauty rules are created equal. And I’ve always thought that the majority of beauty MUST DO’S are either seriously outdated and exclusionary or just not relevant to enough people. But here are the ones you really should follow, regardless of age, gender, financial circumstances or skin type.  Continue reading “BEAUTY RULES YOU ACTUALLY SHOULD FOLLOW”

FRIDAY FIVE: THE NEW ‘IT’ BAG

Over the years there has been many an ‘It’ Bag that I’ve fallen in love with and coveted but perhaps none quite so much as the current favourite of wooden / straw bags. Woven totes, wooden basket bag, straw clutches… there’s a bag for every occasion with this trend.

Cult GaiaCult Gaia Ark bag, £135 available here.

I’ve been lusting over the Cult Gaia Ark bag but in absolutely no way could I justify spending THAT much on a bag that, however much I adore the style, I figured would only be used a handful of times.

Fortunately, I did find a pretty much identical dupe for about a third of the price from Very to add to my birthday list. Not gonna lie – I had really low expectations of the bag and was pretty much convinced that it would be poor quality and I’d end up returning it but it’s absolutely gorgeous, really lovely quality and I absolutely adore it!

Read on to see the bamboo bag I added to my birthday wish list and four more favourites at a much more affordable price point…  Continue reading “FRIDAY FIVE: THE NEW ‘IT’ BAG”

PINS OF NOTE | AUTUMN STYLE INSPIRATION

It seems to have become some kind of super uncool thing to say you love autumn now (or Fall for those of you on the other side of the Atlantic…), with accusations thrown around that adoring this time of year makes you a pumpkin spice latte loving #basicbitch. Eff that.

I love autumn. I always have, always will. Partly because of all that ‘The Beauty of Nature’ stuff that goes on, partly because this time of year just fits in better with my own person style preferences. Cosy knits, leather boots, scarves galore. Autumn is the BEST and if that makes me a #basicbitch then so be it.

Here are some of the pins I’ve been crushing on recently that sum up my autumn style essentials…

PLAID SCARVES

Plaid, check, whatever you call it – I love a good check scarf and can’t wait to bring mine out for an airing now autumn has arrived.

HATS

Autumn Style: HatsImage credit: left, right

In my head, I see myself as a hat wearer. In reality, not so much. This autumn is when I’m going to change that! I love this style of hat and my super talented sister in law actually designs her own line of hats so I feel like it’s time I take advantage of that!

DUFFEL COATS

Autumn Style: Duffel CoatsImage credit: left, right

There’s just something about duffel coats that I love for autumn – and not just because they make me feel about six years old! They’re cozy, cute and the hood is an added bonus for me. British weather is ridiculous and I constantly forget to carry an umbrella so a duffel coat at least gives me a chance of not ending up with completely soaked hair after autumn downpours.

PACKING 101: HOW NOT TO OVERPACK

Packing 101: How Not To Overpack

I used to be the queen of over-packing. I was the girl at the airport with two suitcases jammed full. I used to think nothing of packing enough shoes so I had a different pair for each outfit, each day. Fortunately, that’s not the case anymore – after years and years of chronic over-packing,  I’m now one of those dreadful smug people who always seems to manage to take just the right amount of stuff away with her.

I realise this is one of those subjective things – what I consider the perfect amount for a holiday would also be excessive to some and horribly minimal to others so this isn’t a prescriptive list of what you SHOULD take on holiday. More some general tips that I always use to make sure I don’t end up lugging a bunch of stuff halfway round the world that doesn’t actually get used.  Continue reading “PACKING 101: HOW NOT TO OVERPACK”
